To answer your question, you can ID the combine engine easily. It will always have a place on the side of the block for a mechanical fuel pump. It will probably have a plate over it.
Next, why does it matter? You can take a WC 201 engine and put a 45 crank, and anything else you want from any 226 engine right into the same block and you would never know. So again so what if he is running a combine engine.

It matters becuase this "WC" is running wheel adapters with 16.9-38 wheels hes saying is factory. The engine in this tractor is well over 2000 rpm's and it just screams. And where I live there is no Divisions like you talk about its either antique or mod. farm stock. But there is a rule about it being an original block.

It's a D17 engine identification. He is totally
legal unless you have a pure stock class. NATPA has declared them legal for Divisions II on up. I have one and can't tell any difference between it and the U3019 block with M&W's at WC rpm's. The "E" will make big power though if you let him run over 2000rpms though. The main bearings are 3.000 diameter as opposed to 2.437 on wc/wd/wd45 blocks.
