I am going to look at a wd45 this weekend. I know absolutly nothing about these machines and I am hoping that some of you will give me some pointers as to what to look-out for. I already know that the tractor needs tires. It has power steering that is said to work well, a wide front end, and a 3-point hitch. I was not sure if the WD45 came with 3 point hitches or not. Are there any areas that are problematic on these machines that I sould be concerned about? Are parts readily available for the WD45?
I have restored a Furguson TO30 and Ford 9N, so I have some experience with 'chinery. I have always enjoyed the looks of a WD45 and now have the opportunity to aquire one.
This tractor will be used mainly as a project for my son and I. It will never see field work again, most likly be used to pull a mower, spreader and maybe a small sprayer.

Thanks in advance for all of your thoughs

If the engine turns and you can get this tractor at a good price do it. the value of the power-steering and wide front will make you a good tractor. these tracotors are easy to work and most parts you can get. Lots of power for their weight. Places that could be a problem or finding parts for the snap-coupler hitch and the power steering if it is the low pressure AC one. If the price is right go for it. You will have more power than the Ford or fergson and a better tractor if the 3-point works well.

powere steering and 3 point were not standard. they both add to the value of this good tractor.

Scott,
Look at the rubber boot on the gear shift. If it doesn't fit tight to the shift lever, then rainwater will run down into the transmission. Hand clutch should "snap" when disengaged. When driven, gear noise should be minimal and exhaust should not have bluish white smoke (burning oil). Duey

Yes the boot on the shifter is important. If it is cracked or broken look for water in the transmission. Yellow fluid, crack in PTO housing from freezing , water comming out drain plug in PTO when plug is removed. Some water may not have damaged much, but it could have. Something to be aware of.

I myself own two WD-45's. I think if the engine turns over you will have a good tractor. Every thing else on the tractor is a easy fix. Ask if the person has checked the oil in the transmisson and differental. I have encountered about every thing on these tractors. Make sure that there is no cracks in the trans. If you decide to buy, you can email me with any questions that you may have on fixing your buy. The WD-45 is a damn good tractor. You can do just about anything with them. If you can get it for a reasonable price, you will not regret it. Trust Me!!
Good Luck!
