None of your choices will attact the neoprene and that is what counts. I have also used liqud dish soap. Just make sure that you dont pinch or scuff an O ring. Make sure that the bare sleeve will slide all the way down and turn freely by hand before installing the O rings. You will then be able to feel the O ring as it slides by. It takes extra force to pinch and slice off some of the O ring.

Has anybody tried brake assembly lube? It's a real thick silicon like liquid and I use it for a lot of things it wasn't intended for. It's a little like my cotter pin puller. I use it all the time but I've never pulled a cotter pin with it.
