On my recently purchased, 8010, the crankshaft harmonic balancer with a 3 v pully grooves does-not line up with the alternator or the fan pullies. Even the air conditioning is out of line a little. So, I am assuming someone did this in an engine repair but just left it out of alignment and quit. So now, how do I repair this alignment or new parts?

Quoting Removed, click Modern View to see Well, shoot. That's too bad. The last one I had him do was $350 bucks, which is really reasonable.

Quoting Removed, click Modern View to see Glad you got it with 1/2" plate and 7/8NF bolt. I have encountered MANY that would not have worked that way. A bent plate and not enough pull.

Those rubber dampers all have a service life to them. A friend of mine texted me last night that his 8.3 Cummin's powered Gleaner combine 1993 model had the damper fail and move forward missing the radiator fan by 1/4". He caught it just in time !!!

Thank you, Dr Allis for all your help. I now understand this problem and will get this fixed. In a coincidence, I have a 7040 and the harmonic balancer pulley went out the same week. Notice when the temperature kept increasing and not cool down... amazing.

Quoting Removed, click Modern View to see Get it fixed. Dampers like that break crankshafts over time.

Regardless which way you go, you still need to remove the old one from the crankshaft snout. You CANNOT use just any old 2 or 3 jaw puller. You MUST pull from 3 of the 6 holes in the center hub. These holes are 7/16" NC and use grade 8 hardware. Run a tap thru each hole to get clean. Make a plate 3/4" thick with three holes in it shaped like a triangle to connect to the pulley assembly. Use a 1 inch NFine bolt and nut as your pusher screw, up against the crankshaft bolt that has been loosened 2 turns. Leave the bolt and washer on the engine or when it breaks loose it may go thru the radiator. There is easily room to do this in-chassis with this homemade tool. Sometimes it takes 8 to 10 tons of pull to get these removed.

If the belt grooves are out of alignment, it is because the vibration damper rubber has failed. Most of the time the grooves move towards the engine and will eventually rub a hole in the timing cover, so get it FIXED now !! The "fix" is replacement with a new one from AGCO. If the part is unavailable or too high priced, I have used this business in Salem, Oregon who rebuilds them to like new condition with new rubber. He is semi-retired and is CLOSED March- June- Sept and December. Price did run about $350 including 2-way out/back USPS freight. email: langsatherdavid@gmail.com He did one for me a year ago right now just before December shut down.

Hi, just to let you know that Dale Langsather (David) is no longer in business to rebuilt parts, he has fully retired.

I'm attaching a belt alignment photo. The harmonic balancer is too far forward in this case. I can only use one belt with skipping a v groove over, so it does not run off the v grooves with double belts. Third Party Image

Here are picture of the homemade/custom built harmonic balancer puller for the 7040 AC, now on to the 8010. This worked so easy, it almost fell off... I found and fabricated a 1/2-inch steel plate and 7/8ths inch fine thread pusher. In another week this piece will be a loaner for someone else, since I do not want to do this again anytime soon. Thanks again.

Oh, Okay, that makes sense. It looks like it was put on backward.
