Having some gas flow problem - removed the carb drain plug - attempted to screw in my 1/4 NPT hose barb to attach a hose to measure gas level - would not thread in carb. Discovered the carb has a .375 NF SAE thread. Why? Does some accessory attach to the carb?
Decided I can make a hose barb from a .375 NF capscrew as a work-around..... . But what gives??

Is this ACTUALLY the drain plug that enters the carb body from the bottom, or a plug over a non-adjustable main jet?

I think you nailed it.
Found an exploded view and it shows this SHORT BOLT or an adjustable load needle.

So I have a carb with the fixed jet, and a cover screw to plug the bowl casting hole where the adjustable needle would go.

Thanks for your expertise.

I am not SURE !!

Have not taken the ZENITH carb off to look at it everywhere, but I see no plug in the bottom under the bowl.

The SHORT BOLT is hollow - it is too special a part to be just a hole plug.
Gonna have to take it off so I can see more.

Thx for making me think about this.

3/8'' NF 24 and 1/8''-27NPT take the same pilot drill, 21/64''.

If your threads are really 24 TPI I would guess some hack ran a 3/8''NF tap in there not knowing any better!

On the other hand, I suppose the factory could have, for some reason, used a very short 3/8'' bolt with a sealing washer as a plug.

That's what it looks like.
