Can anybody recommend a good place to get a rebuilt starter or a place that sells internal parts for one?

This site probably does. I prefer DJS Tractor Parts for parts. Local starter shop would be a great option too.

I need to refresh my starter for best performance with a 6 volt battery. It works now but seems sluggish. Are brushes and bushings and clean up armature about all that can be done. Main contact switch seems to be hard to operate also. Cleddy

I just went through that with my WD-45. Put in new brushes, clean everything up and make sure you have heavy enough battery cables and all connections are super clean. Don't over look any connections like I did. Mine turns over super good now. Did I mention make sure all connections are CLEAN? Good luck.
