5040 Remote Selection

I have a dumb question, the remote selector valve in the photo (# 10) seems to select between normal 3-point hydraulics and the remote hoses. At the moment the #10 lever is vertical, and the front-end loader works perfectly. The 3-point operation is nonfunctional. I am new to this tractor, and I cannot find any detail discussion in the operator's manual to address the interaction of the two functions. I tried to hook up a box blade and found the 3-point uncooperative. Please can somebody tell this 90-year-old just how I might get both 3-point and loader operation. By the way to you guys who helped me with the safety start switch in a previous post, I found the switch at reliable aftermarketpartsinc for $30.Thank You

That's not a selector lever. It's strictly a remote valve. It is however, first in line for hydraulic oil from the pump, so when it's in use the oil flow to the lift is interrupted. The system isn't engineered to operate both functions at once. If you have a dedicated loader valve and it's being supplied from the remotes, you will need to get creative in order to eliminate starting and stopping the remote valve to go back and forth between loader and lift arms. It can be done, but it's not just moving a lever or flipping a switch.

Thanks Harry, Suspicions confirmed. Over the years I have reclaimed Farmall letter series and Ford N and 100 series to keep busy, this 5040 is quite a step up. The whole idea was to help a neighbor level up a pasture so the loader/box blade interaction will be interesting. I'm not sure where I'm going with this project, and I appreciate the help. Stay tuned. Thank you.

Any of the A-C loaders I ever saw on those tractors, had a hydraulic pump directly above the PTO shield. This was a dedicated pump for the 400 series all-hydraulic loader and was independent of the other two levers and had 2-hydraulic levers on the left loader tower. You had to engage the PTO to make the pump run.

No such luck. The loader is totally dependent on the engine driven
pump through the remotes, not an A-C loader. The PTO is free for
other jobs. Thanks for the thought.

So, your loader is a trip-bucket loader ??

Sounds like you have the remote lever tied to make the loader valve work, you'll have to release the lever to get the 3pt to work since you don't have the aux pump

Is anybody still there? I'm still fighting the remote vs. 3-point problem. The number 10 lever easily moves to the horizontal position and disconnects the remotes. Thank you, but now, the number 1 lever for the uplift/down lift remains frozen in the mid position, as is the draft control lever in the upper position. I've loosened the friction but still the thing will not move. I just got the massive Maintenace manual and trying to figure out the hydraulic system. Is there something I'm overlooking. I believe the former owner only used the tractor for the front-end loader so he may have disconnected something. I just don't want to tear up something because I missed a step-in the switch from remote to 3-point. Open for ideas. Thank you.
