Hi again folks,
Another question - probably for for Dr.
Allis, but maybe someone else knows too.
I've managed to avoid any 3rd/4th gear
popping out issues, but I've always been
scared (petrified, actually) that these
issues may pop up (no pun intended) at some
point.
I seem to recall Dr. Allis posting a while
ago about an Allis service bulletin re:
welding up the detent hole position in the
shift rod, and grinding/drilling a new hole
slightly further down-stream to get more
gear engagement and help it stay in gear.
There were also some notes about using
heavier detent springs, and replacing the
shift fork because new ones are a little
thicker and less likely to bend.
Would it make sense for me to do this pre-
emptively as a precaution? And if so, does
anyone know how much more down-stream the
new detent hole should be made?
I love this tractor - would hate for
anything to happen to it. If a new shift
fork, some springs, and some time re-
working the rod would helps safeguard any
issues it sounds like money and time well
spent to me.
