D14 Oil pressure

Hello All, I'm restoring a 1957 D14.
It does not have the original oil pressure gauge. The gage is newer and has 0-50psig range. It shows 15 psig at low rpm and 20 psig at 3/4 throttle warm. Can someone tell me what the normal or acceptable opening pressure would be once the engine is up to operating temp?

Most A/C engine of that time where low pressure engines. Having the wrong oil filter can/will also lower the oil pressure. You need a pressure gauge that reads no more then 30PSI and even that is a tad bit high

You are fine. Get a correct cotton string oil filter.

All D-15 engines are a different oiling system than a D-14 and carry a little more oil pressure as well.

A 30 psi gauge would be just right, they are most accurate in about the middle 50% of their range, just right for 10 to 20 lbs. pressure.

Either would be fine, after all it isn't all that critical what the actual pressure is, more important is to have it and to see it isn't changing.
