Fuel shutoff valve on an Allis C

I have a leaking fuel shutoff valve on my Allis Chalmers C. First, how does the valve seal? Is it an o-ring (haven't taken it apart yet because I don't have a way to shut off the fuel and haven't drained the tank yet.) If it is, does anyone know what size the o-ring is? Any special type? I know fuel can be hard on some kinds of rubber.

Thanks for any information you may have.

It is a needle valve. It can be redressed to seal better. Sometimes leaks are at fittings - often used rope-like wadding (not teflon).

New filter assemblies are available for under $25.

Thanks, I haven't taken it apart yet...need to get the gasoline out. I did get a whole new sediment bowl assembly, but thought if it were possible to put a new bowl seal in and do something on the shut off valve...that might be an easier fix. Do you know if the packing on the shutoff is like the graphite plumber kind of rope packing?

They sell rubber and cork round gaskets to seal the glass bowl... several sizes available, make sure you buy the right one.

On the valve, you screw the valve OUT till it stops, then unscrew the nut holding it in... pull it out and look... will be a small rope packing.. You can buy thin graphite packing string, or you can use pipe tape, way string, or floss you use on your teeth.. Wrap a few layers around the stem and reinstall.

Thanks! That is exactly what I needed to know. I think I got the bowl to seal and now I just need to re-do that needle valve packing and I think all the leaks will be stopped!
