WD with Drive Train Problem Follow Up 5/31/2021

I have done a Total Rear end Dis-assembly of this wore out 1951 WD-Allis Chalmers tractor that ran low on oil in gear cases and as answered the Pinion bearing was loose and wore out. In Fact it was broke and fell apart when taken off shaft. Surprising that the gears look pretty good after that locking up failure. I want to patch this tractor up good enough for use as a chore or acerage tractor and it will not see hard field use or heavy pulling.

I have the Pinion bearing replacement handled and feel satisfied I can resolve that issue. My question is that the Spider gears are not in very good shape. The gear teeth are fine but thrust washers are loose and one 11 tooth spider gear is loose on shaft. Replacing all them parts if available would cost a LOT and I could buy a whole tractor for a lot less. How much problems will it cause in the future if I just tighten up the differential gears as much as possible and let them run as they are??Cleddy

Differentials are stressed the most when moldboard plowing. Even worse when low on oil and plowing.

Well back to square one on my project. My differential case is cracked and any new pinion bearing/shaft will just shake around as bad as old one. Looking at options and will call around salvage yards for a replacement rear end or case. Anyone have a WD-Allis Chalmers parts tractor within driving distance of South-east Nebraska?? I could use a little road trip anyway !!Cleddy
