D17 clutch adjustment

Can the freeplay be adjusted? And what
should it be? I have 6 inches of freeplay on
the pedal. Clutch does fully disengage and
does not grind gears. This is on a D17
series 3 s/n 42277

If it was mine, that's how it would be, unless it gets too far away for you when it is clear down. The 6 inches of free-play will diminish over time as the clutch wears. You can lengthen the clutch pedal rod by unscrewing it, but this will also make the pedal come back farther and you may not like that. If you want less free-play and the pedal return location to stay the same, adjust the three fingers on the pressure plate thru the hole on the bottom of the bell-housing. Not easy to do, but can be done.

Thank you DrAllis. This tractor was brought
to me for some much needed maintenance and
the freeplay just seemed like too much to
me. But I will take your advice and leave it
like it is because I am not real familier
with AC. Thanks again
