Allis Chalmers 442 square baler

I'm looking for some springs that go on the dogs mine are about done. One has broken and I only had one replacement needing more of them ASAP.

The original Allis part # is 77009335. You could try an Agco dealer (Agco/Massey), but chances are that number is
no longer valid. I replaced one on my 442 a few years ago - I just used one from a New Holland 272 I had on hand.
I suspect a dog spring from any square baler would work; there's not a lot different between them.

You're wise to check them; the dogs on the top (right below the knotter) are especially concerning; if the springs
are broken and you happen to hit a bump right at the same time it's tying, the bump can cause the dogs to jump up
and smash into the cast knotter cam(s) as they come around - not a pretty sight nor sound. Had this happen on mine
years ago. Thankfully Allis used Rasspe knotters like everyone else, so parts are readily available.

While at it (if you haven't already) it's worth making sure the extension spring on the twine plunger stop is good
and that the stop moves freely. It's not something you want to fail at the wrong moment, or you'll damage the
baler far beyond repair.

Thinking about it some more and further to above - if using a replacement off another brand (the New Holland 272, for instance) some other brands/models used two styles of dog springs - a 'half' version, and the 'full' version (the one you need).

Try looking at New Holland part # 86642329 - I suspect your nearest New Holland dealer probably has them on hand and you could bring yours in to compare.
