Allis C no start

My C has always been a good starter and runner. Lately it has been hard to start. Now it's no start. It is distributor and 12v conversion. I opened the points with the key on and there was spark.I did clean the points and readjusted. I pulled one plug wire and put a plug in it, held it against a hook mounting screw and no spark. I will check again with a spark tester. (forgot one)My tractors are 2hrs away so I will need to have parts with me. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Also where has anyone had good luck buying a sediment bowl fuel filter.

Pull the center wore from the cap and hold it about a 1/4 inch from the block. You should get a good blue/white spark that jumps that 1/4 inch gap of more. If you have spark there try it with a plug that has been gaps to around a 1/4 inch. If you don't have a spark from the plug that means the rotor or cap is bad or the distributor has slipped out of time which is not very likely

Old thanks for the reply. Just so I understand. Pull the coil wire from the cap first. See if I have spark. Then put it back on the cap and use a plug wire with a plug with a 1/4in gap.

Yes that is how to do it. I've seen more then one rotor go bad or if where it is has been wet a cracked cap can short out and then you have no spark to the plugs

Sorry it took so long to reply but my tractors are not at my house. What I did first was check for voltage on both sides of coil. Had power, but nothing on plug wires. I put in a new set of plugs, rotor and condenser. Fired right up and ran good. I did replace the key switch with a push pull switch. ( the tractor has the push switch on the starter) The ket switch has been kind of a problem. I ran a wire from the battery side of the ammeter to the switch and to the coil. Hope that is right. But this is a 12v conversion. Is the one wire from the alternator for acc. I don't have lights so I did not hook that up. Hope that is right.
