WD missing - bad condenser.

Went to move the WD and was only running on 2-3 cylinders. Ran fine when parked. It s got a WD45 engine transplant in it with distributer. Cap, rotor, points, condenser, wires and plugs were new 5 years or so ago. 12V neg ground with alternator also. Has a resistor before the coil and measures good. Coil is probably original so swapped one with a 12V coil off a gleaner E engine I have. Still missing. Cylinders that fire have weak yellow spark.

Filed points. Nothing still missing. I removed condenser. Checked it with my DMM with resistance test and it only took a few seconds to charge up above 20 Meg ohms. Hardly any capacitance. I found an old rusty condenser probably ancient. I cleaned it up and it has Fairbanks Morse stamped on it. Checked with the DMM and took 15 seconds to charge above 20 meg ohms. Put it in and it fired right up no longer missing.

I think this is an old FMJ magneto condenser. Will this hurt anything?

Doubtful,

Pulling acquainted fellow runs two on his pulling tractor for redundancy,

If your spark is jumping half inch ,Id say you got it.

My thoughts

Good for you .good post v

New condeners are a problem on almost every tractor and old car site. THey all seem to be junk.
