Tractor starts and runs. On the drive home the tractor started missing and back firing when it hit a grade. Starts very easily though.
I am going to replace wires and plugs first of all, then replace or clean fuel strainer assembly.
How critical is the reach on the spark plugs? The tractor came with NGK B6S plugs. I have purchased Champion H10C plugs. Will they work?
All help appreciated

I use NGK3112 plugs in my WD45. Now days I will not wast my $$ on Champs since there made in the land of almost right

Champion spark plugs and Allis Chalmers is not a good mix. Spark plugs will start to miss fire or not fire at all after a few hours of run time.

before throwing parts at it ,.. set the valves. they have a tight setting as it is so they might be tooo tight from wear and then once warmed
up the valves are not closing. the only other thing to cause a backfire is a bad cap with a carbon track but not likely in these old tractors
. wires and plugs cause a miss not a backfire. and as for plug types they came with champions so how did they run till now??? that champion
number is not familiar to me at the moment. seams like a hot plug. what did the parts man find in his book for that tractor.? you need to
find out the original plugs then work your way from there according to your tractor use,.. light use stop and starting hot plug,... heavy
pulling keep original plug.

First of all, Thank You for responses.
I consulted the Operators Manual and Champion J-8 was one of the recommended plugs. The current day equivalent is J-8c which I swapped for the H10c set and installed them with new wires.
Where do you suggest I buy replacement parts for the old sediment bowl assembly? I'll check this site.
The manual recommends SAE 20 for above 32degrees F and above. Do you think 10w-30 is acceptable for the oil sump?

Again thx
