D17 valve protrusion (gas)

Is there a maximum allowable valve protrusion for the d17 gas? I&t makes no mention of it. My cylinder head manual says +.060. Don't trust that spec because they were higher than that when the head came in for repair.

Certainly wasn't anything I've ever worried about on a gas engine with 7.25 to 1 compression ratio. If they are more than 1/4" inch you might worry. The piston is about 1/2" from the top of the sleeve at TDC.

Ok, thanks. I just have the head at the
shop. Not a lot of Chalmers come through.
I know the pistons are in the hole, didn't
realize they were that far down.
