D15 engine identification question

Greetings !
I have a D15 that had a engine replacement done by a previous owner. Forgive my ignorance, but where could I find the engine serial number ? The only stamp I see (with much paint over it) appears to say: E 15 K ,,, or perhaps E 19 K......
Any help would be appreciated !

On the left side of the block, kind of behind the carb and/or air hose, towards the rear of the block. The series II D15 engine
will have 160 stamped into it. I don't know about the earlier D15 with the 149 engine.

"Stamped" with a hammer and number stamps like a typewriter key. Not a "casting" number which has raised characters.
