5040 hydraulic control valve seals?

I recently pulled my hydraulic control valve, cleaned it and reassembled it with a new piston seal. It had some junk in it that was effecting the lift. I have it back on the tractor but the valve in the bottom of the assembly is leaking badly and causing the TPH to gyrate. The drawing shows a seal M2.62 x 17.12. Does this seal go around the plug or inside the assembly to seal the cap to the to the plunger assembly? Is this a standard O ring or a special seal? When I took it apart there was a torn O ring around the plug that did not seem to do much, and I did not find a seal inside the plunger assembly....any help in how to put this back together would be appreciated!

Without seeing the seal, plug, and valve body it is hard to say, it seems like it might go over the plug. If it does the shape of the plug and seat area around the port for the plug in the valve body should give a clue.

Did you notice there are two different part numbers for that seal dimension based on the transmission? Your post leads me to believe you aren't using a dealer. Are you using a dealer for the parts or just picking things that fit? I ask as; if some of the seals are O-rings, using O-rings from a generic metric O-ring kit may not be the right ones, even if they fit dimension wise. And trying to match to imperial dimension O-rings can be worse. Durometer and material are factors to be considered and are as critical as the size, especially in something like a valve. Also do you have a service manual for your 5040? It might have some info that will help you through this. JMHO

Thanks for the reply! I attached a diagram with the parts I am looking for. I did notice the different seal sizes depending on the transmission. Mine is a 6 speed. I had put a seal/O Ring on the cap nut and that is what was leaking. Probably wrong size seal or wrong material? I have watched a few tear down videos and none seem to show an O Ring on the cap nut for this valve so I was wondering if I was just assembling it incorrectly. I am doing this work myself and did buy the seals from a local dealer...I will stop by again and see if they have the correct O Ring, and maybe they can tell me if I am putting it the right location.....Thanks!!

Local [u:68cf437de0]AGCO[/u:68cf437de0] dealer? If they looked up the Allis Chalmers part numbers the first time and gave you parts with those Allis Chalmers numbers, you should have had the right parts. If you went to the dealer and just matched old seals they might not be right in some aspect.

When I reassembled the first time I used an O Ring that looked like the correct size and that is where the leak was occurring. I have the correct O Ring from my local dealer, and want to make sure I assemble the drain valve correctly. The diagram does not clearly show if the O Ring goes on the cap and seals against the valve casing or inside the cylinder to seat. Hoping I can figure it out this weekend. Thanks!!
