b model brake drum key or woodruff key

i need a key or woodruff key for my brake drum, mine is missing, i had time to call one tractor parts dealer whose catalog doesnt show one, sales person said just go to local hardware store, that cant be right, where do i get one it is for a b model.

Going to a local hardware store can't be right well that statement is wrong. Many parts like the woodruff keys etc. are in fact the same as you can buy at a hardware store. You have to remember back when these tractor where built the company was trying to get a good machine out the door for a good price so they did use many parts and piece that where common made for every one

so an ace hardware store may have them under woodruff key? but arent they different sizes??/. im surprised this large tractor supply didnt have them does anyone know the zize they must come in different sizes

Yes they come in many sizes so one has to look and maybe measure etc. You can if you have it opened up use a bolt to get how wide the slot is that i fits in and go from there or buy 4 or 5 different sized one and see which fits. My self most of the time I can eye ball it and get it right that way but I have been doing this type stuff for 50 or so years now

kind of a tigt fit in there t measure, i would like to buy one that is made for it, does anyone have key from a parted outtractor or have a number for that part that would help me order the right one. 51 b modela/c rt. side brake drum key needed. all help appreciated

The AGCO parts catalog shows the key next to the brake drum but doesn't assign it a Key number.
If you look in the parts list at the brake drum the woodruff key is listed as a subitem under it, Current Agco part number for the woodruff key is 70910157, dimensions aren't given.

Do you have a nearby AGCO dealer?

Here is a link to a source of such keys, you can order from them or figure out the industry standard part number for the key and check around at nearby hardware, auto parts and big box store. (The numbering system is a bit strange, to say the least!)

I'm likely to have one but to get it would be a big chore since I would have to take the rear end apart on one of the Part Cs that I have. When I buy those keys I buy a number of sizes of them and put the ones I don't use in a draw in m tool box to have for later

thanks for info have a agco dealer 50 miles away appreciate the help, for 8$ may just order your number and hope for the best

if ou werent so far away id ask what you wanted for the whole right side drive unit and just put it in im not sure just putting a new key in will solve this problem if i have to pul drum may look for whole unit and buy one.

So where are you?? I'm In Missouri the Lake of the Ozarks area. I have 2 parts Cs both missing engines due to problems. I also have 2 complete Cs one should run with no problem the other well it an water have had a fight and I think it has lost

Key is part # 70910157 Its listed under the drum. Google search shows that to be a 3/8"x2 3/4" woodruff key.

By the time I pulled the keyway I'd have to charge you 10-15 time more then you could buy one for. LOL

If you want a keyway, you best see a machine shop. Pulling a keyway would be right up there with pulling post holes. Just saying--

To add to what Aaron SEIA posted, that 3/8" x 2-3/4" woodruff key is a short height key. A dealer may be your best bet and they should be able to mail it to you. If your dealer is no help, try Sandy Lake Implement. Many have good luck with them in getting parts for old ACs.

You might be able to use a piece of 3/8" flat bar and make your own with some cutting, grinding and filing. Fit it into the keyway and adjust to get the proper height above the shaft for the drum keyway.
