What's the deal with this? Was helping daughter with 1947 B that she bought with a new house, has Woods belly mower. Can I change the oil? Sure, no big deal. work on my Farmall H all the time. Buy the owners manual, says to drop the pan and clean the pickup screen. After much frustration, search archives here, and eventually google. Suggestion number one is to make sure no children with sensitive ears are around to hear your bad language. Finally got it done, moving pan left, right, etc. Can't really say what I did, John

NEVER heard of dropping the oil pan to do an oil change. Not sure where you get that from but I have changed oil in hundreds of machines and NEVER heard of dropping he pan

Probably a recommendation when using a non
detergent oil from years ago in an engine
with no oil filter operating in dusty
conditions....which could lead to a clogged
pickup screen....which could lead to oil
starving the oil pump...which...well you
know. Some engines had a small panel on the
bottom of the pan which could be removed to
access the pick up screen without having to
remove the pan. Using modern oil in a light
duty application, cleaning the screen would
not be necessary....but keep a close eye on
the oil pressure gauge!
