AC 7000 Trans Question

I picked up a 1976 AC 7000 with the
partial power shift. It appears the power
shift has it's own oil reservoir with 2
sight glasses on the side. Takes a big
allen wrench to take the filler plug out.
I drained that oil to change the filter.
Just wondering when I fill it back up if
it is a special oil? Also does anyone know
the amount of oil it takes? Looks like 3
or so gallons, but curious. Thanks in
advance - Bob

Takes universal trans/hydraulic fluid that meets AC/Deutz-Allis/AGCO 821 or 821XL specs. There's also a drain plug behind the fuel tank to drain the transmission section, which takes 1 1/8" wrench. New hyd filter and new oil should take 5 or 6 gallons. Run it 5 minutes, shut off and let it sit and recheck it. There's also a dipstick right behind the cab under the SMV sign MAKE SURE IT'S FULL OF OIL. Leaking PTO seals will run it dry and bad things happen to people who don't check oil levels.

Thanks for the reply Doc. Is the sump with
the filter and sight glasses connected to
the rear sump where you can check the
level with the dip stick then, or are they
2 different reservoirs? Thanks - Bob

The sight glasses are for the transmission, Power Shift clutches and PTO clutch and gears. The rear dipstick is for the differential and ring and pinion. Best to get an Owners manual.
