WD with drive train problem

I have a WD Allis that will go backwards and forward somewhat for a limited time. After a short time it starts
jamming up and making awful snapping noises going forward. I suspect a bad bearing. Transmission and final drives
seem to be okay but it is hard to tell just where the problem is. Any ideas how involved this might be? Cleddy

Hard to say till you know for sure where the problem is. Are you sure all fluid levels are where they should be

There are two square headed check plugs on the left side of the torque tube. One is right behind the foot clutch pedal. The other is ahead of it about 6 inches below the battery box. Remove both of them. They should be FULL of 80/90 wt oil. They are nearly empty, right ?? Total fill is 4 gallons between the two of them. Any oil type is better than empty. Tractor is technically junk because the main shaft pinion bearings have failed due to lack of oil, unless you are capable of a complete tear apart and reassembly of the rear end.

You are both right. Drained gear cases and very small amount came out of all 3 places. I suspose it is now to late to add oil???? The reason I have this tractor is because it was replaced and discarded 30+ years ago as an old loader tractor and it was cheaper & easier to get another used tractor. Not sure when all the oil dripped out but I am going in and having a look at what is there. Buying a bunch of new parts is not an option?? Cleddy

Since it sat a long time I'd fill the area with the correct oil or UTF and try it. That would be maybe a $30 gamble but might be just fine. Time tends to make things leak out

If I could find OLD motor oil or hyd oil or transmission oil from someone who is doing an oil change....USE IT !!! Any oil is better than no oil !! At least that is a no cost option.
