changeing brake band on a b

got cover off right side of brake band, took spring off and will now wear safety glasses , it broke and ive been shot at and that zing was close. any wqy there are holes on both sides lining up with the pins i have to remove, the tutorial showed the need to drill thru the inner pilot hole to the pin and then be able to drive them out, is there a measurement that would show if someone in the past had drilled them to change brakes or do i just drill till the pin spins? also what size hole works.

There may be c-clips on the inside up against the brake band that keep the pin from moving out of the hole... after 50 years, the pin will be STUCK and rusted in place. The pin goes thru from the OUTSIDE toward the bevel gear case under the seat. If the hole is obvious on the backside, that is good... If the hole is not all the way thru, you may have to enlarge it... Soak everything with penetrant.. You need to pound from the back and push the pin out the front. Sometimes a 1/4 inch punch and 5 pound hammer will work.. Sometimes you got to hit it 100 times. If you have an air chisle with a punch tool on it, you can make short work of removal.

you know, the pins comeing out was the easy part, got clips off one went in ill get it when i get the dad blasted brake band out, its wider than the opening, tomorrow i twist it to get it out, or im maybe doing something wrong or theres a special tool. thanks for the information
