Been looking at this AC WD for awhile now. I got the seller down to 1,500. Is that a good deal? And what should I keep an eye out for on this tractor?

If the shifter boot has been allowed to get old and crack and the tractor is left out in the rain water can go down it. Pull plug in PTO and see if water comes out. Oll in final drives can be old and nasty, nobody thinks to change it. If the tires have or ever had calcium in them and any got out and between the rim and tube the rim can be rusted from the inside. A little damage visible from the outside can mean a LOT of rust inside. If the tractor is actually in as good condition as it looks I think that is a good price. Especially if the rear tires are good as they look to be.

And look for anti-freeze in the engine oil - indicated by milky looking oil. Bad for engine bearings. Check appearance of anti-freeze. There's nothing like taking her for a drive. All gears, don't forget reverse. Various engine speeds. Look & watch for anything abnormal.

It looks like the rear rims are good ah? It's common for them to rust out since they almost need solution for weight. If you want to go all out on inspecting it you could bring a compression tester and test each cylinder and hope the seller doesn't get pist. If there in spec it would be worth $1500, if not prabably not.

The guy said the tractor has been restored before. It had a new boot on the shifter. The battery was dead so I couldn't hear it run. How hard is it to fab up a 3 point hitch for these tractors?

external_link(dot)com sells a great 3 pt hitch adapter. Get the one that bolts to the drawbar. I'd say $1500 is a pretty good deal for that tractor.

They are easier then most to rig up a 3 pt on. 2 things to look for not yet mentioned are loose shifter that can come out of the shifting forks and signs the block has been cracked, like welds or a big bolt going through the block between the 2 center cylinders (neither should be deal breakers just dickering ammunition). $1500 seems like a very common price for most any old tractor around me regardless of the flavor until you get to the bigger ones. Pretty useful old tractors due to the wet hand clutch which lets you have live hyd and pto.

Yep a simple piece of channel iron with a piece of round bar welded in it to hole the lift arms. then bolt it down to the draw bar and go to a farm and home store and buy 2 lift arms and links and rig it up. BTDT a good number of times

I think I'm gonna go look at the tractor again and have them charge the battery for me so i can start it and drive it. I'll check out all the things you guys told me to look for and I'll let you know. I just wish it had a wide front lol
