I have a D17 Series 1
The wire from the switch to the Voltage Regulator Post 4 has severed.
It looks like the insulation burned off some time ago and the wire finally broke
Is they something I should be careful of when replacing the wire?

I wouldn't think so. As with all electrical repairs, just unhook the battery and you'll be fine.

Nothing tricky, I just did my D15.

The owner's manual describes the process of wiring. Plan on all wires needing replacing/bad insulation. Everyone I touched cracked. Get 10 gauge auto primary wire in all the colors.

Good chance the regulator needs replacing.
