CA governor

getting ready to replace governor on my CA, any timing precautions or other precautions i need to be aware of, thanks dave

The book says magneto yes, distributor no.
 
I would be a good idea to make sure the drive slot goes back in without moving the distributor lugs. To be sure I would make sure the TDC line was in the center of the inspection hole. That way the drive slot would be horizontal as would be needed for a magneto.
 
it is the distributor, can't i take the distributor cap off, mark where the rotor is pointing, install and make sure rotor is
pointing the same direction?

YES. I position the rotor pointing out where I can see it and mark it EXACTLY. When reassembling, it has to be EXACTLY in the same spot. Before marking, rotate the rotor counterclockwise to take the slack out of the gears and mark it there. Same goes for the reassembly.
