Need some advice Allis Chalmers D15 Series II

Look for some help/education on the inherited Allis Chalmers D15 Series II from my father in law who passed away this last year. He was not able really give me a whole lot of instruction on where the hydraulic fluid, differential fluid, oil are to filled. I think it has always just ran for him (his big quote on most things around the tractor and other farm things was "differed maintenance"....inherited it from his father.... so I am just wanting to hopefully keep it operational...have used it some with a grader and disc (had to modify the chain on the bell release because it was not releasing the implements). It stopped running last week but with a new battery and some start fluid it is going well now. My hope is that I can get it running with the old John Deere brush hog that is in the barn...(also need to figure out about where to grease on that) A couple questions I would appreciate help on. Where to replenish the various oils, is it best to keep a charger plugged into the battery while it sits for weeks at a time and any other helpful hints would be appreciated! thank you in a advance....!

The one best thing you can do for the tractor (and you) is to get a reprint of an owners manual and a repair/overhaul manual is useful too. And if you need to work on it
a parts manual is useful to see how the parts all fit together even if you don't use it to order parts. But the owners and repair manuals you will find very useful for
maintenance.

Power steering fluid is right behind the grille screen with a 4 inch taller breather. Hydraulic fluid is under the gas tank on the right side with a breather 1/2 turn to the left releases it. Transmission fluid is next to the gearshift boot. power Director/PTO fluid is next to the instrument panel on the left takes a hex wrench to remove. All these compartments will take modern day universal hydraulic/transmission fluid. Get an Owners manual and it will tell you different oils but ignore it as it is 50nyrs old.

Thank you...I did get a reprint manual that covers a number of AC models...but it speaks to me like a foreign language. I my father in law said the manual info. he could find reads as if you are already a mechanic. I was just hoping to just get some basics about where the various places are to monitor and replenish the oil for starters and if having a low voltage battery charger on the tractor battery is a good idea if it is going to sit for weeks at a time.

Thank you... that helps...I was looking for the basics as far as locating the various places for the oil. The PTO fluid would be the hydraulic fluid correct? I guess the hex cap was lost a long time ago...has had a piece of cloth plugging the hole. This helpful for me getting a start on checking some of this stuff. I know that there has always been some small leakage from possibly the hydraulic fluid but have never had an issue. Do you think the that low set charger on the battery is a good idea if the tractors sits for weeks at a time. Just put a new battery in last week. seemed to be why it would not start....

thank you for the advice!

You say the manual you got covers several models. That sounds like an I&T service manual, not the Allis Chalmers D15 S2 manuals. You have to remember the service manuals for equipment are written for mechanics, but folks here can help you interpret what you don't understand in them. As DrAllis mentioned, the actual Operator's manual will be the most help for you to start with.

The Allis Chalmers publication numbers to look for are:
Parts Book AC # 79008409
Service Manual AC # 79003407
More info is needed to say which operator's manual you need, here are the choices:
Operator's Manual AC # 70257967 (Gas engine prior to serial number 13001)
Operator's Manual AC # 70257967 (Diesel engine prior to serial number 13001)
Operator's Manual AC # 70257967 (Gas and Diesel engines starting with serial number 13001 and after)

You can use the on line parts books at https://apb.agcocorp.com/ .

Maybe look on Ebay or an original manual, dad bought an expensive "re-print" for the 180 at the dealer and it's been so heavily copied/duplicated, most of the illustrations are un-legible :-(
