Crack in IB torque tube bell housing

During disassembly and cleaning the grease
out of the bell housing, I discovered this
hairline crack. See the picture below. My
question is should I try to get that
repaired by taking it to a welding shop to
weld cast or at least get it braised? I
know cast is questionable in welding. Or
should I leave it? How much weight would
be in that area where the front axle
support pivets? Seeing how IB torque tubes
are hard to come by, I don't want to mess
this up, but want to do it right. Any
suggestions and guidance will be a great
help. Thank you, Jim

A good machine/welding shop should be able to do that and have it hold just fine but thy have to be able to heat it up and then let it cool slowly. Years ago I had a machine shop fix the pressure plate on a Case SC I had that had broken fingers and last I heard it is still holding and that was over 10 years ago. I looked all over for a new or rebuild or even used one and NO ONE had them

Thanks Old for the response, I am most concerned on how the torque tube is circular and when welding it would heat up and put stress on another area and crack.

How about just leave it alone ?? I'm not there looking at it to get a 100% 3-D view, but what are the odds of this tractor ever being used like it might have been 50 years ago ?? Pretty small I'd guess.....

I remember watching on utube a while ago how almost any cracked casting can be repaired with locknstitch overlapping pins

That is why I say a good shop. A good shop will have an oven to put it in heat it up then pull it out weld it and then back in the oven to slow cool
