5040 Oil Question

I am new to AC tractors and not familiar with them, i was wondering a couple things about my 5040 diesel tractor.

1. Can i remove the hydraulic filter on the side of the tractor without draining the hydraulic oil? Is it a screen filter or regular disposable
filter??

2. What does Agco recommend as far as hydraulic fluid? I try to put the right oil in my tractors, however i do use VP Racing J20A Plus fluid in my
ford backhoe, been good so far.
 
run the front end of the tractor a little up hill and you can take the cover off OK,its a screen in there that can be cleaned with something.
I usually end up spraying it good with starting fluid or carb cleaner.I use a good quality premium hydraulic oil.Its a Fiat built tractor BTW about the same tractor as an Oliver 1265 and Long 445.
 
oh ok, my Deere has a screen like that, clean it up and stick it back in. I got the tractor running today, pulled it out the driveway and she fired right up, runs good, oil pressure is where it should be. I disc up an area to plant turnips and it pulled an 8 foot harrow like nothing. It does have a good bit of blow by but it just needs to be run more than anything.
