Wild running wd

Sorry about the lack of info, the weights came lose in the governor and can't control engine speed. This is all new to me. Need help.

If the weights pivot holes are badly egg shaped, and the pins were worn badly as well, getting new ones, or good used is easiest. If olly moderately worn, they could be rebushed by a machine shop, and new pins installed. Jim

happened to me many years ago. FIL tack welded the weight bracket back to the shaft. does not affect timing. BTW it was an A2 combine

A WD engine is nothing like an A-2 combine engine. If it has battery ignition, I can walk you thru it. If it has a magneto, that is a little different. Either way, YES, it has to be timed before you take it apart !!!!!

If the weights "exploded", I'm guessing that timing the engine is going to be the very least of your problems.
When that happened to my D-17, there was a lot of shrapnel to be found and removed.

Yes it has a battery ignition. It all
started when the throttle linkage came
loose. Tractor starts up and runs fine at
low idle. I don't know where to start.I
would appreciate any help.Thanks.

So, being as how you are a novice at this, let's be certain the governor has or hasn't exploded and go from there. Remove the distributer cap and wires and set them off to the side. Rotate the engine with hand crank or by pulling gently on fan blades to make the rotor tap point straight out 90 degrees to the engine. with your finger, push the rotor tab forward to be sure there is no slack in the gears. Mark where the rotor is now located EXACTLY with a white marking pen or a piece of tape, whatever on the plastic plate under the rotor. After disconnecting the key switch wire from the coil, remove the three bolts or nuts that hold the governor assembly to the engine. Pull the governor assembly out and inspect the weights for damage. DO NOT ROTATE THE ENGINE !!!! Report back as to what you see.

Hello, I will follow your instructions
and get back to you as soon as I can.

time. Thank you so much for your help,
