7000 transmission issue

Could use some information on this one. Have a black belly 7000 that was in road gear nothing hooked to it. Running 1500 rpm when the clutch was pressed in it brought the rear wheels to a halt. Now even in neutral it will pull down the motor. Reminds me of being stuck in two gears. But it wasn't shifted other than the power shift 3rd to 1st when the clutch was pushed in. Rear end is able to be rocked so I believe it is good. Any thoughts

The usual scenario is the PTO seals have been leaking oil and no one ever checks that dipstick under the SMV sign at the rear of the cab. Oil gets too low and it locks up the transmission pinion shaft bearings going down the road. At this time, the tractor cannot be pulled or moved without sliding the wheels. It could also cause the seizure of low gear to the main shaft if it got hot enough. Can the tractor be pulled/moved or not ?? This is the key question.

Oil level was on full mark. Gets checked
before every trip out of the shed. When it
was pulled onto the trailer one tire
skidded and the other wanted to spin
backwards.

Thank you for the reply, it got me thinking the pto shaft does leak. It's never gone below the add line and the day it died when I pulled the dip stick it was slightly above the full mark. Witch now seems odd cuz it normally would have needed a 1/2 quart or a little more.

One tire spins one way and the other tire the other way means pinion bearings are locked up. You should be able to shift transmission into neutral and let out on the clutch without killing the engine, but if not, the tranny has been wounded too.
