I just got the tractor. It is stuck in third gear. Does anyone know a quick fix? Or is it probably because the shift forks are worn and need replaced. I have not took cover off and checked it yet.

Thank you sir. I read on a past post, after I posted this to not lift up on the shifter either.

Pull the shift boot up, remove the snap ring and pull the shift lever straight up. Be careful, there should be a square headed pin in there you don't want to lose. Use a long screwdriver and pop the forks back into alignment. Reinstall the lever.

The long handle on a WC/WD series can wear the tip of the lever where it contacts the rails. (happens on Letter series IH also) Wear can be welded up and ground/filed back to like new. If there is wear on the pivot pin, that can have a similar remedy. Jim

If you get things lined up and the shift lever back in and you haven't fixed the wear it may/will happen again. However you can probably put off the repair for a good while if you are careful shifting. Move the lever in a distinct front to back, right to left pattern. Don't try and pull/push it at an angle across the shift pattern say from first to fourth as this gives the end of the lever the perfect opportunity to get out of position. Instead, for the first to fourth shift first pull the lever straight back to neutral half way between first and second, then directly to the right over the fourth position, then straight back into fourth. Shifting this way will reduce wear anyway and keep your problem from happening.
