I600 rebuild , Question Dr Allis

Put sleeves in the block now going to install pistons and rods on the crank do the rods have to be in a certain direction?

When the engine is being disassembled, an experienced Tech will mark the rods before pulling them out of the engine. A center punch will do, marking the rod and rod cap on the camshaft side of the engine, so when going back together everything is as it was before. I think there is a long and short side to the rod bearing end of the rod, so yes, there is a right and wrong way for them to go. Same goes for the wrist pin if it is a G140 gas engine. The pin needs to be centered even tho the rod might not be quite centered.

Diesel engine, new pistons and wrist pins. put rod caps back together with rod when removed. one side of rod position # stamped in. Manual lists nothing for replacing engine internals. Has pages and pages on rebuilding injection pump

Your question had me thinking about how the rods and wrist pins need to be located before tightening the rods onto the pins.

But the Buda diesel is a totally different animal. I just looked up my D15 service manual, and found just what you indicate as far as injection pump, etc.

There is a picture of a piston. It shows snap rings. So it's a full floating wrist pin. So with rods and caps matched, and numbers on the same side, I don't understand your question.

Question: Do the numbers on the rods face the injection pump side of engine or other side?
