d14 dist and gov

I have a d14 that you can turn distr 1/2 turn which is caused by gov shaft moving back and forth. I see no way to take up this play. Anyone got a idea. Thanks

Gary,

Have you popped off the front cover and checked if the bushing is gone. Here is the governor case off the tractor and that round brass colored ring is the bushing that fits into the cover
and the tip of the governor shaft rides in it. If that were gone, it would be pretty sloppy.

One other thing, if the gear on the governor shaft is worn badly, that will also cause a lot of play. Here is an example of the one off my D14 (on the left), it was shot though the tractor still
ran fine. The one on the right is not a new one, but a governor shaft with a much less worn gear.

There is no bushing in the housing and I see no sighn of one ever there the shaft shows no sighn and still wouldn't take al the end play out unless somethilng else is wore. the shaft goes from a small diameter to a larger one with a taper betwee n them. Hope you can understand all of this.

I've never seen a front cover without a bushing. Maybe you have a governor shaft I've never seen before, but they are cylindrical at the front rather than conical, at least for the ones I've worked on.
