making one working wd allis from 7 parts tractors. i have three styles of fan blades,4 blade,5 blade and one 6 blade. also found two types of thermostat housings/manifolds.one only takes h2o from the front of the head the other is connected to both the front and rear ports.any suggestion as to which maybe the preferred style to use? thanks, joe

The 5 blade is slightly larger in diameter and sounds like it gets very close to the shroud. That'd be a hard no for me. Never heard of a 6 blade on one. The 2 port water manifold is earlier. Engine serial numbers 288,999 and down used it. The single port was on engine numbers 289,000 and up. I doubt you'd notice a difference.

I think there was a difference in the head gasket between the one port water manifold and the two so as to direct water different into the head for even cooling. The one port was probably more open at the rear to direct more water there as the manifold didn't draw it to the rear as well. Four blade fans were standard on WDs and 45s as far as I know. Maybe the others came off a combine engine or D-17 possibly, I don't know.
