wd45 hand clutch

Does anyone know if it is possible to do away with the hand clutch so you only have the main engine clutch. Would like to put a kit in there to eliminate it if possible.

I do not need the hand clutch and it is not reasonable to have it to have to replace if it ever goes bad. Im never going to get rid of the tractor

I don't know if there is a kit to eliminate it but I do know it has been done. May just be something you make up on the spot with the correct size of sleeve needed once you have everything apart and measured. Seriously though unless you are doing tractor pulls with this tractor, the hand clutch is pretty indestructible, especially if it is not being used/slipped constantly. I would just take the handle off and forget about it.

If you don't abuse it too much it will probably last a LONG time. If you take the cover off the top of it and see some shims left to remove you will be able to "adjust" some wear out of it when, if ever, it does wear out.

When you remove the hand clutch assembly, it is bolted to the upper PTO drive gear. Find a used upper PTO gear and bolt them together with bolts and lock nuts. Before assembly, remove the one in the tractor. Take a grinder to both of them and grind away the shoulder so they can fit tight together with two flat surfaces. Done several like this for pulling tractors.

If they are running in oil, they virtually never go bad. I don't know why anyone outside of a puller would want to give up one of the best features of the tractor, but the good Dr explained how to do it.

If you don't use it it'll never go bad. That said I never use the foot clutch unless I have no other option because the hand clutch is a better design.

Ok Doc, I'm curious about the hand clutch removal mod that you describe, is it possible to have a 2 stage foot clutch? or is this mod replacing the hand clutch with a single stage foot clutch? If its single stage only how is this beneficial, is the hand clutch a weak point when pulling?

Foot clutch remains the same. I think the hand clutch starts slipping at higher horsepower while the foot clutch will hold.

Pull cover off, under Battary, get a 90 degree drill, drill thru assy, a good grade 5/16 bolt
will do, need two 180 degrees apart, the bolts clamp the clutch tight, did this on a big engine puller, no problems

In the case of a pulling tractor, it is first about slippage with high HP and 38 inch rear tires. Second, it's about weight. When you are trying to get down to the 3500 lb class with a 200 lb driver, it has to be removed.
