Allis B front crank seal, felt and rubber

My YT rebuild kit came with two front seals. One is only a rubber lip seal, and fits fairly loosely. I assume that is intended for use with a speedi-sleeve to cover the spiral grooves. The other is wider and has both the felt seal and a rubber lip in the same seal. The direction of the garter seems to indicate the rubber should go inboard, but that would still leave it on the spirals. Flipping it around with the felt inside and the rubber outwards lays out better, but the garter faces out now.

I was just expecting a felt only seal with the kit. Anybody put this type of seal in, and what direction did you install it?

Luke 9, Move up three posts ,to 1939 B post, and read it. I think it will answer your question! You need the speedi sleeve!

Thanks, Ralph. That is the conclusion I came to also and ordered a sleeve. After looking at the two seals again, the original has a 1 15/16" O.D. and is the same as the lip seal supplied with the kit. The other seal in the kit is 2" OD, so the timing cover would need bored out to accomodate it. The sleeve looked like the cheaper/easier option.
