Wheel bearing

D 17 Series 1. Front wheel bearing has about 3/16 play in and out. Washers and nut are in to limit. Bearing rollers etc. appear good. Should I get a big washer to take up the play or would that change the bearing pressure point and do more harm than good? Thx

If they have been cleaned to bare metal, and inspected by eye they may be the wrong bearings. Look for numbers on them to compare, or cross reference to the original. putting a washer on the spindle could make them work, but until I knew why they can't be preloaded correctly I would not do it. Tapered roller bearings should never be operated loose. These must have been loose for a while. Putting a washer around the spindle to push on the cone and rollers of the outer bearing might pussh the outer cone and rollers against the step in the spindle, again doing nothing to fix the issue. If mud or dirt got into the bearings it can act as grinding compound and wear the bearings so they are no longer to size and they will look OK, not new, but OK and work but need a washer as you state. But be careful as was mentioned that they aren't worn too much and the races and rollers don't make much contact. With the bearings out check how they fit together. I would say only having to add one 1/8" or so washer would be OK though. These are not high speed bearings they way they are being used and not especially high load compared to what they are likely rated for so you can get away with a bit. And some depends on how you are going to use the tractor.

Sorry for the the disruption. I'm looking for the timing hole or port for the flywheel on a D175 engine in a I60 loader
