WD45 Light Switch Options

The light switch on my WD45 is completely rusted solid, can I replace it with a standard automotive toggle? I know it is supposed to control the generator charge rate as well as the lights so I'm wondering what my options are. I know reproduction switches are available from Steiners and a few others south of the border, but I would prefer to find something local if it will work. Thanks. Richard.
 
I should point out that I'm still running 6V Positive ground type system, and much to my surprise the charging system is functioning just fine. If I put in a standard auto toggle light switch will I need to replace the genny cutout system in favour of a regulator? If anyone has been down this road already please speak up, Cheers.
 
If the light switch is rusted solid and the generator still works fine I would leave that just as is and wire separate toggle/Push-pull switch to a hot power terminal such as the Amp gauge terminal to run the lights. Gauge should show discharge when lights are on/engine not running and plus charge when engine is running and generator is charging.
 
Thats a good idea Charles, I hadn't considered leaving the old switch to control the generator and running a secondary just for the lights, i may just do that.
 
My WD-45 had a light switch that works fine but the Engine is a Gleaner-E Engine with a 12 volt generator w/ modern Voltage Regulator so the charging system is not using that switch at all but the lights are. Sometimes they can be freed up with spraying penetrate oil front & back for a while. I do have a John Deere with original light switch and switch adjustable cutout that still works. Nice to have stuff original but anything that old may have some upgrades?? cleddy
 
This site sells tractor parts. If you can't get a switch here try Sandy Lake Equipment, ask for Brenda, or try DJS tractor parts, they have a catalog full of AC parts.
