I am thinking about putting about a 7' snow-blower on a tractor. I would probably have it on the 3 pt for now and then mount the blower on the front of the tractor with a PTO mount hydraulic pump. I want to go look at a AC 170 with a cab to maybe mount the blower on.
I don't really know nothing about a 170 tractor . What should I be looking for on this tractor.
I know there is a member here with a blower mounted on the front of his Allis Chalmers but I don't remember is his member name. I would like to see how he did his and reservoir. Maybe he will chime in. Thanks

Here in western Washington, some winters we get a few inches of snow, others none at all. So I've never seen a snow blower in person, but I'm thinking a 7 footer might need a little more power than an AC 170, which is about 54 HP PTO.

I have a 5 ft 3 point snow blower on my S4 D17, in heavy snow the 17 has all it wants to keep the blower going. Could use more power.

A big issue will whither the tractor have enough power and whither 1st gear slow enough. I run a 5' snow blower on the front of a 22 PTO hp tractor and get
along very nicely, but that's because the tractor has a hydro transmission and I can just creep along when the snow is deep or hard or heavy. Light snow, I
can put the pedal to the metal.

I have a 6ft two stage behind my Oliver 880. That's close to the hp of a 170. It handles it well but, I wouldn't want anything wider. In most snow falls, it plays with it but, when we get a heavy snow or when there's 2ft drifts, it has it's hands full and at the slowest reverse, I still have to clutch at times.

I'd say it's too small, here's a seven footer on an AC 7040..

In some conditions a 54 HP tractor will not be enough HP. I have brought a 160 HP 7060 {PS with 8 ft twin augers to her knees before in low reverse., What you do is take less of a mouthful of snow, by not blowing clear down to the ground or by a smaller than 7 ft cut. Taking less volume by raising the blower up off of the ground will allow you to probably only go forward so many feet and spin out. At that point you back up and then drop it down to the ground and take a full mouthful. You will need rear chains on the tires.
