190xt no gears

Just picked up a 190xt man said it has a shifter problem and he was right!! the gear shift lever just flops around no drag like trying to go into any gears moves back and forth an all around. still on the trailer -9 and covered in snow going to unload it this afternoon and shove it in my 80 degree shop probably take 2 days to thaw it out !!! thanks for any ideas in advance

Sounds like the shift lever has disconnected from the rail. Could be worn to the point of coming loose or broken off. I'd put money on wear and usually they can be built back up by welding.

Is the rod hooked up between the gear shift lever and the lever where it goes into the top of the transmission hooked up?

Got it apart broke off now have to find a new one couple other little things bad with the forks to

I think I'd taper the end of that broken piece and weld it back together.

If it broke there, it's a good chance someone was trying to keep it from jumping out of gear
