1953 CA GasTank

The dreaded gas tank....does anyone know of ANY place in this great big USA where a man can buy a gas tank for the model CA. Mine has been repaired...BUT...I'm thinking ahead....it basically is a specialized tank....with the indent for starter arm and all. The man who repaired mine is long gone....rest his soul. Any place around today won't even look at something that old.
Any place that remanufactures?
Thanks

There is one for sale on ytmag for 125$ in Missouri. Granted it seems a little high. Maybe he'd come down a few bucks. Just depends what you want to spend. Local salvage yards usually have a few on hand that are alright.

Where are you located - general area? That might lead to someone throwing an idea out they wouldn't bother with otherwise. Maine Tractor Crossing website shows some CAs being parted out. Go to that web site for the phone number and email contact info. Call Scott or send him an email if you're interested in checking on them.

Now you have made me courious, about the indent! Come morning I will be checking out the tank on my 52 CA to see what you mean! I have 2 brass elbow's on my tank on the right side, with a clear plastic tube connecting then, that acts like a gas guage. the installer used small O rings around the clear tube, as 3/4 tank, 1/2 tank 1/4 tank marks It works well. I still wonder if a C tank will work!

The C is not the same.....in order to work the starter would have to be rotated on its axis....no way can you do that...only goes one direction.....I've been down that road.......the CA tank is one of its kind

I tried Maine tractor...the comment from them was....we haven't had one of those in a "100" years.....so much for that.

Its in the photo ads.

B and C originally had a starter rod you pushed with your right foot. CA, and probably the late B, made concurrently with the CA, had the hand/pull starter. To accomplish this change the starter housing is turned half of a turn on the nose cone, putting the contact switch on top. And the lever in the contact switch is changed. To make that work, the bottom of the tank is dented in right there, as the lever would otherwise hit the tank.

The later B tank will work as it has the indention also. Changed at 113779 when they moved the starter pull rod up beside the throttle lever.

I am sorry, but can not do pictures. That is why I tried to explain it in my post. Both brass elbows are located , on the right side if the tank, pretty much at the front of the tank. they both penatrate the tank, and, the lower one is very close to the bottom curve in the tank, and directly in line with the top one. There is about 8 or 9 inches of clear plastic tubing connecting them. The brass elbows are complete, with small brass nipples screwed in, which you slip the clear hose over. This gauge should work om most tractors.

Sounds like the old perkalator coffee pots the church had with the sight tube.
Theoretically you wouldn't need to tap the tank. You could use a tee off the sediment bowl, then run the hose up the side. It would only need a breather at the top and some support brackets.
