AC5040 stuck in gear

Took cover off. None of the shifters move. I suppose the shifer fork is misplaced? How do I fix this?

Why does this happen?

Got it fixed. Used large screwdriver to jostle whatchamacallit below the low gears 1-4 shifter bar. It popped back in place, all lined up.

I did think about jacking up left wheel, next step if needed.

Are the rail slots in line? It may take a bit of force to free it if you got it locked in two gears. Jack it up so one rear wheel is off the ground, That may help relieve some of the stress.

I did the screwdriver thing yesterday, none of the rails would move. Will try it again this morning.

Jim.ME has a good point this was what happened with my 5040. Simple fix, if that's what is wrong. Line them up with a screwdriver replace cover and you will be good to go

More info

Motor was running when it got stuck.

After shutting down, wouldn t turn over.

Rails would not move with clutch in or out.

With clutch in I could spin the gears.

I just started up moving shift stick from neutral to 3rd. Not sure about transmission type. I have 1 2 3 R low and 4 5 6 R high, single shift stick.

It is likely something is out of place. What transmission does it have, 6/9 or 8/12? Is it locked in one gear (it will move) or locked in two gears (stalls if you let the clutch out)? Were you shifting it when it occurred? What gear was it in and what gear were you going to? When the gears are in neutral the notches in the shifter rails where the gear shift lever go should be centered and all in line, are they?

If you don't have the manuals now might be a good time to get the service and operator's manuals.
