WD Ignition Timing

I?m setting the timing on my WD. My IT manual says to rotate
cam as far as it will go in the direction of normal rotation. It
then says to rotate the distributor body until the contacts start
to open. It doesn?t say which way to rotate the distributor
body. Can anyone tell me which way to rotate the distributor
body?

its obvious that it has to be rotated opposite direction of the cam. I use apiece of paper inbetween the points. rotate dist and as soon as paper can be pulled out tighten her down. the other is to have ignition on and soon as you hear the spark tighten her down.

Get no. 1 coming up on compression by thumb over spark plug hole, look for "fire" in hole in bottom of bell housing to come along. Stop at "fire". Install distributor so rotor points to no. 1 on cap. Install wires in firing order. Start engine. Time to "fire" with timing light. It helps to have someone else to slowly crank engine over as you are looking up into the bellhousing with a flashlight for the "Fire" and "TDC" marks. It also helps if you paint the "fire" mark white so it is easily seen with the timming light. You want the "fire"mark lined up with the center or parting line in the bellhousing casting with the timming light.

Got it! Fired the tractor up this morning after sitting for 9 years and my first complete rebuild. Couldn?t be happier with the results. Thanks for all the advice along the way.

Using a timing light connected to the front spark plug, you pull the throttle wide open and turn the distributer back and forth until the FIRE mark is in the center of the opening at the bottom of the flywheel housing. So, at 6 o'clock the FIRE mark should line up at wide open throttle. When you idle the engine down it will be close to the TDC mark.
