As a farmall guy i have my hat in my my hand on this Allis forum seeking advice on a recent purchase, i bought a backhoe tractor advertised as a D17 industrial when in fact it turns out to be a Allis Chalmers I-60 industrial with the 160 cid motor and 4 speed shuttle shift tranny, I bought an I&T AC 201 shop manual, my question is how closely related is this tractor to an off the assembly line D15 ?

Pretty close. The series II D15 had the 160 cu in engine. Some gears in the torque tube are switched to give you forward and reverse, instead of low and high, while using basically the same clutches. Different front axles, full hydrostatic steering, different rims/wheels, things like that.
