D17 gas diesel

Can you put a gas head gasket on diesel 262 d17 to increase compression for better starting. I think there is about .30 thinner on
gas gasket would that help any at all with just .30 thousands different, thAnks for any info.

It couldn't hurt. I'd think valve to piston clearances would still be OK. How long the gasket will last is the question. You are on your own.

Might want to contact Lubbock Gasket they will make you a custom gasket for about any application after you explain what you need.Had them make me a head gasket for a Cockshutt 50
pulling tractor years ago worked good. The 50 engine is basically the same motor as the D17D BTW.

You will want to pay close attention to piston protrusion. The factory specs is .029 on the high side. A used diesel head gasket is in the .045 range. If your block has been surfaced multiple times to fix sleeve recession, you could end up with pistons hitting the head. Measure measure measure, then measure again.

To the best of my knowledge the D 17 gas is 4 cylinder and D 17 diesel is 6 cylinder however I believe the D 19 is a 262 cubic inch gas burner as well as some Gleaner combine engines.

Maybe he means to use the gas 262 head gasket from a D19.

Did the reverse years ago on a Ford 5000D. Had dealer overhaul and it didn't start as well as before. Thinner original gasket was no longer used.
