Allis Chalmers G up for Auction

This tractor is to be auctioned off tomorrow (Tazewell, VA). Apparently the previous owner started tearing it apart to restore
it and died before he could finish. Seems like most of the parts are there. Engine is free, 1 rear tire is bad, no hydraulics,
motor pulley is broken, battery box is rusted away, generator is disassembled, and has cultivator. I don't know what it would
cost to rebuild the engine? I know a new rear tire and tube are going to be around $350. Would $500 be too much to bid?

I just finished one that I gave 700. For and I now have 2800.00 in it. If you have the engine rebuilt it will be 13 to 1500. If it's done right. That n62 continental engine is expensive to rebuild if you need and machine work it expensive. You can rebuild a ford or Chevy v8 cheaper. Check the gas tank and see if it's good. They sell for 400. Alone. All new rubber front and rear with tubes will be close to 600. That starter laying on the ground needs to be picked up because you can't find one that I know off. You can get it rebuilt for around 100. For sure you will prolly need new clutch and release bearing. You can always part it out and make lots of money on it if you get it for 500. The axle housings will be full of dirt for sure so they will need to come off and brakes replaced. Pads are not much at all just a lot of work to get to them. That's all I can think of right now. How hard would it be to find a used motor pulley? I think they broke it hauling it to the auction site. I saw a Model G on Ebay this week that got bid up to $3,400 and didn't meet the sellers reserve. He just put it back on there, see link. It has hydraulics and a belly mower with it. Don't know how much more that adds to the value?

prices on them seems to be hi to me. 5 years ago I almost bought one a guy wanted 3500 for it but I found 960 ford for less. don't really know what you would use it for except pardades/shows. apparently some people like them. rebuilding tractors what ever you have can be expensive especially if a machine shop is involved. I will say some I have seen at shows all fixed up sure are cute.

I bought my first one when I was raising pumpkins. I had been using one of my B's to cultivate and it was killing my back and neck looking under the center of the tractor for hours. With the G I could look down directly at the plants without a strain. I even did some cultivating after dark.

You'd be a whole lot better off by paying a bunch more and buying one that runs and moves around on it's own. You have no idea as to why this one was parked. Broken rear axles are common and not mentioner in any earlier reply. I once bought a tractor that was described "it was running, then shut down and immediately taken apart so it's all there". Far from it. Never again. The little missing parts can be darned hard to find and expensive.

If you are looking for a project or don't mind getting into one $500 might not be a bad place to start. If you just want a running/working G buy one that runs.

I went to the auction and bid on the tractor. When it got up to $685 (which is what it sold for), I stopped. I did come home with a nice 3-point hitch sprayer and a gasoline engine driven pressure washer. I'm sure that I am much better off with these.

They were very popular for vegetable growers for cultivating, and planting back when vegetable farms were smaller. Many of the onion and lettuce growers on the muck land had several AC G tractors set up for different jobs. Still people who want them to cultivate vegetables, especially the smaller organic growers. That is one thing no larger equipment companies make any more-a good small cultivating tractor.
