Wiring on WD Allis

OK, I re-wired my Allis WD. It ran rough so I rebuilt the carburetor. It ran fine for a while, but died and will not start back up. Doesn't even seem to be hitting, but I have fire through the points. Replaced points, plugs, condenser, and coil. Still have fire through the points, but not starting. Oh, and I have gas running through the carburetor. Fuel is in fact running out of the carburetor when trying to start it. Is it possible that it has jumped time? I think I now have an exhaust leak. Could that be causing the problem? Just looking for suggestions on what to look at next.

First off one should always trouble shoot then parts never the the way around because your likely to add problems.
#1 make sure you have a good blue/white spark at the center wire of the distributor cap and at all the 4 plug wire that will jump a 1/4 inch gap or more.
#2 pull the carb drain plug and make sure you have a good steady flow of gas that will fill a pint jar in less then 3 minutes.
#3 when was the last time you serviced the air cleaner and dumped the mud and water and filled with fresh oil

In this case sounds like you have it flooded. Turn the gas off and check the plugs. If there wet they are fouled and fouled plug will not fire

Pretty much impossible for them to jump time. How and why did it die when it did? Old pretty well has it right on troubleshooting it.

if it were mine I would take the breather line off at the carb. make sure you carb is nice and dry. if you have a drain plug on the carb drain it. take the fuel line loose at the carb. spray some wd-40 in to the carb and put the line back on. leave the pipe off. valve the gas back in and start it the same time. if it doesn't start within a couple seconds pull your choke and watch the inlet of your carb for gas. I suspect you are getting to much fuel. the wd-d40 might clean out the seat. good luck and post back what you find.

As for jumping time, there is a way it can sort of happen. I had a friend who wanted help getting his tractor going and it turned out the little gearbox under the
distributor was dry and rusty, the gears had worn out, and it wasn't turning the distributor when it got to the worn out place on the gears. You could lift the
distributor and time it, the engine would fire a couple of times, then when the worn/rusty spot on the gears came the distributor would stop turning and the engine
wouldn't fire anymore. This gear box needs grease once in a while, it is behind the 3 bolt plate where the coil often is bolted on.

Seems I remember working on a WD where there was a pin broken, loose, or somehow compromised, in the magneto drive lug just ahead of the magneto mounting flange. As I recall there's a hole in the housing there which lines up with the pin. This all of course is subject to my memory!

OK, finally got around to working on this tractor again. Got it running, but it is running rough. I believe that there is trash in the tank and it is getting into the carb causing it to run rough. I do have
another problem along with this. The governor is not returning the carb lever to the forward position. As soon as it starts, it tries to go full throttle. We even put a spring on the lever to try and get it to
throttle down. I can manually grab it and idle it down, but that is the only way I can get it to halfway idle. Any suggestions? Is there an easy way to adjust it?

Is the spring on the governor there? If it's going wide open at startup, the governor must not be right, or isn't hooked up right. www.agcopartsbooks.com has the part diagrams.

I hope this is not your governor problem but when the governor weights "blew" in my D-17, it went to full throttle instantaneously.
It would run with the throttle pushed all the way to idle.
I was fortunate that neither the governor gear nor the timing gear was damaged and I was able to retrieve all the broken pieces without removing the timing cover which is a bit of a job on a D-17.
