On the CA allis engine, besides the brass plunger and spring at the front of the cam, is there sopposed to be a check ball and another spring like it shows for the D-12, 14, and 15?

NO! The ball and spring for the CA is in the oil pump stem. The spring and ball is in the front to make a full pressure system to oil the rod and main bearings. The B, C and CA does not have a drilled crankshaft to oil the rod and main bearings. They have a drilled camshaft that sprays oil in each rod that gets picked up for the rod bearings at the rods spin in the spray. The mains get oiled thru the cam bearings.

Thanks Dick L, I knew how they oiled, but was stumped at how much they oiled being as the cam didn't build any pressure.

The pressure on the gage is built between the ball and spring in the stem and the resistance of the filter fibers.

I never plugged the filter stand pipe to see how much pressure the ball and spring would read on the gage. I have wondered though.
